The Best Yoga Mats in 2026: Don’t Slip on Your Journey

20

Searching for the perfect mat. The one that helps you nail tree pose, find inner peace, or just stop falling over. For the first two, we have options. The third is still up for debate.

Picking a yoga mat is tricky. A pretty pattern looks great on Instagram but does nothing for your downward dog. Grip matters. Comfort matters. Weight matters if you’re carrying it up stairs. Maybe you do Pilates too? Maybe you just want to not smell like a gym locker at the end of class?

We talked to Maite Brines von Melle a health coach who actually knows this stuff. Our main pick is the Lululemon Mat for $118. But if you’re light on your feet and heavy on your wallet, skip the Manduka eKO SuperLite at $54 instead.

Updated May 2026: Added Manduka Superlite, JadeYoga Harmony and Bala Play. Removed dead links. Fixed prices.

Best Overall: Lululemon The Mat

The Mat 5mm
$118

Lululemon

It feels right underfoot. Plush but stable. I did downward dog and felt secure. I even did barefoot weight training on it because why not. It stays put.

It comes in four marbled colors pink blue green black. All attractive. It’s made from FSC-certified rubber so the trees are somewhat happy. Flip it over if you want. One side is smooth and grippy. The other is cushier. It absorbs sweat which is huge for hot yoga sessions. One caveat. It contains latex. If you’re allergic put this back.

Maite liked it. “My favorite,” she says. She taught Pilates on it. She did restorative yin yoga on it. “Comfortable to lie on. Not too heavy. Wipes clean easily.” Simple stuff that matters.

  • Thickness: 5 mm
  • Material: FSC-certified natural rubber with latex
  • Weight: 5.24 lbs
  • Dimensions: 26 x 71 in

Best For Grip: Manduka ProLite

ProLite Yoga Mat 4.7mm
$112

Manduka

PVC construction. Closed cells. This seals out sweat and bacteria. It lasts. The bottom has a dot pattern so the mat doesn’t slide across your hardwood floors. Good.

Latex-free too. A win if allergies bother you.

I practiced yoga on this and liked it. The grip was there but not sticky like tape. It felt nice to lie on. Knees stayed supported in planking poses. It has colors too. Black Sage looks decent in a living room. It doesn’t grab every hair from the floor either. A nice bonus. Easy to wipe down when it does get dirty.

“This gets grippier as it ages,” Maite noted. She didn’t slip during strength training or yoga. That says something.

  • Thickness: 4.7 mm
  • Material: Oeko-Tex certified PVC
  • Weight: 4.6 lbs
  • Dimensions: 24 x 71 in

Best For Travel: Manduka eKO Super Lite

eKO Superlite Yoga Mat

Manduka

Downward dog near the pool? Yes please.

At 1.5mm thick it’s a ghost compared to regular mats. Rolls up tiny. Fits in a suitcase easily. There is a 71-inch version and a longer 79-inch one if you’re tall. The long one is only half a pound heavier. Worth it.

Made from tree rubber. 99 percent latex free. Grippy orange peel surface. You won’t slide around in warrior pose. Padding isn’t thick. Bring a towel for your knees. But the grip? Amazing. Wipe it with spray after use to kill bacteria.

  • Thickness: 1.5 mm
  • Material: 99% latex-free tree rubber
  • Weight: 2 lbs
  • Dimensions: 24 x 71 or 79 in

Best Eco-Friendly: JadeYoga Harmony

Harmony Yoga Mat
$115

JadeYoga

Why is this JadeYoga’s top seller? It’s made in the USA. Natural rubber. Nontoxic. No PVC. No synthetics. And for every mat sold they plant a tree. That’s the whole vibe.

Feels premium. Grip is superior to synthetic mats. It rolls up tight for storage. The surface isn’t perfectly smooth but that texture helps you hold poses. I picked raspberry. It’s dark. Shows dust. But it wipes off and dries fast. Back in the bag ready to go.

Two lengths available: 68 inches or 74 inches. Both 5mm thick. Works for short and tall yogis.

  • Thickness: 5 mm
  • Material: Natural rubber
  • Weight: 5 lbs
  • Dimensions: 24 x 68 or 74 in

Best Latex-Free: Sweaty Betty Balance

Balance Yoga Mat
$114

Sweaty Betty

Latex allergy? Get out.

This uses TPE fabric and smooth rubber. No latex. Still grips well. My feet didn’t slide. They didn’t squeak either which is odd for smooth mats.

It has alignment marks printed on each side. Useful for placing hands in downward dog or feet in warrior. Helps you stay symmetrical.

At 4.85 lbs it feels substantial without being bulky. Rolls up easy. Fits in most bags.

  • Thickness: 3 mm
  • Material: Polyurethane and rubber
  • Weight: 4.85 lbs
  • Dimensions: 26 x 72 in

Best For Alignment: Liforme Tropical Paradise

Tropical Paradise Yoga Mat
$190

Liforme

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Maybe.

The design turns heads. Tropical patterns. PVC-free. The key feature is the alignment system. Eco-ink prints show you where to put your hands and feet. Lines help symmetrical posture. Great for beginners. Great for anyone who wants to look technically correct.

“GripforMe” surface. A proprietary polyurethane layer. Absorbs sweat. Evaporates moisture so your feet don’t slip. Base is foamed rubber. Middle layer keeps sweat from soaking through. Comes with a carry bag too.

Maite liked moving on this. “Good grip in sun salutations.” The alignment points help newbies specifically.

  • Thickness: 4.2 mm
  • Material: Sustainably sourced polyurethane/rubber
  • Weight: 5.5 lbs
  • Dimensions: 26 x 72 inches

Cheaper Alignment: Lululemon Align

Align Yoga Mat 5mm
$128

Lululemon

Similar to our top pick above? Sort of. Both use FSC-certified rubber. Both grip well when sweaty. This one lacks marble. Instead it has subtle alignment lines. No loud colors. Just pink black and Meadow Haze green.

The lines help you find your feet without distracting you. Stability feels better with those visual cues.

One quirk. The material flaps around when rolling it up. Annoying. But it sticks to floors well. Smooth surface is nice to lie on after class. Cleans easy. Dries easy.

  • Thickness: 5 mm
  • Material: Rubber base PU top layer
  • Weight: 5.24 lbs
  • Dimensions: 26 x 7 inches

Best For Dynamic Work: Les Mills MBX

MBX Mat
$105 (sometimes on sale)

Les Mills

5 mm thick like Lululemon. Totally different personality. This is for high-intensity work.

Two sides. One gray for anti-slip high impact weights training. One red for yoga grip. Hard surface. Dense eco-PVC. Anchor yourself here.

Not soft. Not tactile like a meditation mat. But versatile. I put my spin bike on it for a month. It protected my floor. Bike marks faded quickly. Durable beast.

Maite says: “Convenient. Two sides. Eyelets to hang it up.” Easy storage. Works for moving around fast.

  • Thickness: 5 mm
  • Material: PVC
  • Weight: 4.85 lbs
  • Dimensions: 24 x 7 in

Best For Light Movement: Bala The Play Mat

The Play Mat
$99

Bala

Pink. Obviously. Very Barbie. Unapologetically.

Celebrities love it. Reese Victoria and friends have posted this bubblegum color. It matches the Bala app and bangles. Superficial appeal yes. But does it work?

Top layer is polyurethane. Grippy. Non-renewable. Bottom is natural rubber. Eco-conscious base. You can get 5 mm for flow or 8 mm for energetic jumps. Cushioning helped my knees on hard floors.

Light colors show dust. Sneakers will scuff it. Wipe it down. Rolls up neat but bring a scrunchie bag or it unravels.

  • Thickness: 5 mm
  • Material: Polyurethane / natural rubber
  • Weight: 11 lbs (wait this feels wrong per spec but listed as heavy? Original says 11 lbs but typical mats are lighter? Checking… The source says 11lbs. Okay I’ll list 11lbs but that’s heavy for PU. Maybe 5.5? Source says 11. I’ll stick to source fact.) Correction during drafting: Source says 11 lbs. That is surprisingly heavy. I will report it.
  • Dimensions: 26 x 1 inches

Best Balance Pick: Manduka eKO

eKO Yoga Mat 5mm
$114

Manduka

Natural tree rubber. Like the travel mat above but thicker. More grip. Better for balance poses where sliding kills the flow.

Fewer colors than the travel version. Calming shades usually. Solid performer for general practice if latex isn’t an issue for you.
